Each year Church Council decides upon a fund raising project to support. One year it is a local charity and on alternate years an international one is chosen. Throughout the year many social events and fund raising activities are organised. These events are wide ranging, hopefully to involve as many people as possible. The fund raising committee is always open to suggestions for new ideas, but recent successful events have included musical concerts, quiz nights, coffee mornings and open gardens afternoons. Currently no specific charity has been identified, however, a small, worthwhile project of providing a defibrillator for the benefit of the church family and local community has been proposed, agreed and already purchased. Priory’s project for 2013-14 was The Zimbabwe Victims Support Fund The fund is a relief organisation, founded in 2002, for the support of some of the most vulnerable and desperate among the countless victims of the continuing crisis in Zimbabwe. Now a British registered charity, the Fund was set up as a partnership between those directly involved in the relief of hunger extreme hardship in the Matabeleland region and Christian friends in the United Kingdom who shared that concern. A grand total of £7383.90 was raised for this project. During 2012/13 we raised £5250 for Bedford Open Door, a service that offers free, confidential counselling by fully qualified professionals to young people aged between 13-25. In 2011 over £6000 was raised to support the Karibuni Trust, a UK Registered Charity, run by volunteers that aims to raise awareness of the plight of children living off the streets and in the slums in areas of urban and rural poverty in Kenya and to raise money to support projects to meet their needs. We are very grateful to everyone who supports our fund raising.
